Samsung Galaxy S5
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has arrived from the famous Korean smartphone maker. The new S5 handset sports a large 5.1 inch, 1920x1080 FullHD screen and comes with a fingerprint scanner on the home button and also a heart rate monitor on the back of the device near the camera flash.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 in Detail
The S5 is now dust and water resistant which will be music to any smartphone owners ears.
Samsung have powered the new device with Android 4.4 and has a similar case design to the Galaxy S4 with a plastic backing, rounded corners and the pill-shaped home button.
The Galaxy S5 comes with a new significant focus on health and fitness in this incarnation.
The heart monitor will track your pulse and send that information to it's fitness monitoring app, S Health 3.0 (which was already tracking steps and calories burnt previously).
The other big addition is the new fingerprint reader (which works differently to the one on the iPhone). It is able to register three different fingerprints and registration requires 8 'swipes'.
You can unlock the S5 using fingerprint recognition, but you can also use it to authorise PayPal to make online payments for anything!
The fingerprint swipe can also unlock Private Mode on the handset which allows access to content on the S5 that you would rather keep secure from anyone else who might use your phone.
Another significant highlight of the Galaxy S5 is the new camera which now has 16 megapixels on the rear cam and the ability to record up to 4K resolution! The new cam also has slow-motion functionality as well as some post capture refocus selection to keep the shutter-bugs happy.
The camera also now has hybrid auto-focus which includes contrast detection and phase detection as used in some advanced DSLRs. Samsung says the auto-focus will be able to lock on in as little as 0.3 seconds which would make it the fastest of any smartphone to date.
